Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

The Intensive Outpatient Program is a helpful transition program for clients who are discharging from inpatient, residential, or partial hospital treatment programs. The program is available five evenings a week, from 5:30 to 8:30PM, and clients are required to attend a minimum of three evening sessions per week. This flexibility allows our clients to continue working, attend school or college, and fulfill other commitments they may have. Our unique approach provides an opportunity to work intensely with clients while they are functioning in their everyday lives. This enables us to teach them skills that help them to navigate the difficulties and stresses in their lives without resorting to their eating disorder as a way of coping. We offer an Adult Evening Program and an Adolescent Evening Program. The schedule for  IOP outlines what types of therapies are offered and provides a detailed overview of a client's typical day.

CEDC also offers a daytime IOP from 11:00AM to 2:00PM for those individuals who cannot attend the evening IOP. The day program is available five days a week, and clients are required to attend a minimum of three sessions per week. We offer an Adult Day Program and an Adolescent Day Program.

To participate in IOP, clients must be medically stable and have an outpatient treatment team. In cases where there is no outpatient team, we will help to create one through our outpatient department or refer patients to other providers in the community. Patients in IOP stay, on average, six to ten weeks however, the length of treatment is highly dependent on a number of variables including medical stability, response to treatment, symptom improvement, and insurance benefits.

Adult Intensive Outpatient Program

Our Adult IOP is for individuals 18 years and older. Each evening consists of a goal setting group, a supervised meal (clients bring their own meal which must meet certain nutritional requirements), and two therapy groups. Psychoeducation, skill development, and building and promoting a healthy self-concept are the key components of our evening program.

Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program

Our Adolescent IOP Program is designed to address the needs of adolescent males and females ages 12-17. The IOP model is ideal for this age group as they are able to receive a higher level of care than weekly outpatient appointments allow without having to leave school for inpatient, residential, or partial hospital treatment.  Each evening consists of a check-in group, a supervised meal (clients bring their own meal which must meet certain nutritional requirements), and two therapy groups. The Adolescent Program is focused on strengthening self-esteem, addressing attitudes towards food, weight, and appearance, and improving interpersonal effectiveness.

We also offer a weekly support group for parents that assist them with meal supervision issues as well as address the client and family's unique issues. Weekly family therapy sessions are available for family members of each adolescent in the program.
