Seeking Help and Support for Yourself
Caring about someone with an eating disorder evokes a range of emotions. The more knowledge, guidance, and support you have, the easier it will be for you in dealing with the situation. A therapist or support group may be necessary. If your loved one knows you are also seeking support, he or she may be more focused on recovery. First and foremost, you must remember to take care of YOU.
At CEDC, we believe an individual’s family and friends are an integral part of a person’s recovery. For individuals in residential, PHP, or IOP care, the Case Manager will have regular contact and meetings with the family or friends. Our goal is to increase the family’s understanding of their loved one’s illness, to help them better understand how to respond in difficult situations, and to help create an environment in which there is more open communication and effective support. We hold monthly support groups for families and friends run by the center’s director, Dr. Seda Ebrahimi. These groups are open to family and friends of individuals currently receiving treatment at our facility.
